About the Order

The Order  is an ancient and military order of knighthood, founded in Visograd, Hungary on 23 April, 1326 by King Charles 1 (Robert of Anjou).  It is the most ancient of those Chivalric Orders which were created as “Royal” institutions, independent of the church.  The Order has a continuous existence for over 680+ years. The Order has included Kings,Emperors,  Heads of State and great national figures, including Pope Paul III.  Originally a military and charitable Order, military service is no longer an absolute requirement, although much of the ceremonial and pageantry of The Order continues to imbibe a military flavour.  Charity remains an important part of the work of The Order and the Grand Priory is a registered charitable organization.  This is reflected within the Aims of the Order which are as follows:

(a)    The support and uphold the Christian Faith or Faiths of one's birth.

(b)    To help the needy throughout the Americas, both spiritually, mentally and materially
